GLOBAL YOUTH SERVICE DAY 2005

Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) is April 16, 2005. It is an annual global event organized by Youth Service America and the Global Youth Action Network, together with a consortium of 32 International Organizations and well over 100 National Coordinating Committees including Child and Youth Friendly Calgary. On Global Youth Service Day, millions of young people in countries everywhere will highlight and carry out thousands of community improvement projects. This year, the youth steering committee of Child and Youth Friendly Calgary have chosen healthy living as their focus. Watch for more details about their strategies to improve healthy living in Calgary.

I have hope that stems in large part from my knowledge that the future of this planet lies in the tremendous energy, enthusiasm, and commitment of young people around the world. I have often said that every individual counts, every individual has a role to play, and every individual makes a difference. Global Youth Service Day proves it. Let us support this opportunity to move forward with hope -- with faith in ourselves and in our intellect. And let's celebrate the indomitable spirit of youth.
