What does YVC mean?
YVC stands for Youth Volunteer Corps, just one of the youth programs of Child and Youth Friendly Calgary.

Can I get school credits for volunteering?
You can receive credits through volunteering in our Youth Volunteer Corps program during July and August of each year. You're eligible once you complete grade nine up to grade twelve. This opportunity is a partnership with the Career Pathways Program at the Calgary Board of Education.

How do I join YVC?
To join the Youth Volunteer Corps Program, simply sign up on-line here <<link>>. Your parents/guardians will also need to sign a Parental Consent Form and provide us with any pertinent medical information and emergency contact information before you get started.

How do I sign up for volunteer projects?
You can sign up for volunteer projects via this website or by telephone. Once you sign up for a project, a Team Leader will call you to confirm the meeting location, times, and your participation.

What is a Team Leader?
The Team Leader is your trusty side-kick for volunteer projects and paid staff of Child and Youth Friendly Calgary. Team Leaders will be calling to recruit you for projects they are leading. We have ten Team Leaders - engergetic and creative people who work alongside YVC volunteer teams.

Can I fulfill community service hours through YVC projects?
If a youth has to complete a certain number of volunteer hours (i.e. school or by a Youth Justice Committee) they can complete them through YVC.

What is a YVC club?
A YVC club is a group of youth, within a school setting, who have similar beliefs and are interested in playing a more active, positive role in the community. YVC Clubs In Schools are facilitated by a Club Facilitator (usually a teacher) and supported by a Child and Youth Friendly Calgary Program Coordinator. Clubs can range in size from 5 students to 50 students!

Do I pay to attend Kid's Critic events?
If you volunteer to be a part of a Kid's Critic event you do not have to pay for the services or events you are their to critique. Food will only be provided when it is a necessary part of the assessment.

Will I be on the radio if I volunteer for Kid's Critic?
Most likely! The office Kid Critics usually have audio equipment with them at each outing and will ask you questions relative to your experience. But remember, your interview may be cut for editing purposes and is not guaranteed to be included in the segment.

Kid's Critic airs every second Thursday on CBC Radio 1010. It is a feature of "The Homestretch" hosted by Jeff Collins, and airs any time between 5:00 and 6:00 pm .

How can I become a CYFC partner agency?
Could your agency use the resources of talented and creative youth volunteers? Well you've come to the right place! Child and Youth Friendly Calgary is connected to 2500 youth volunteers who are ready to offer a helping hand. An agency profile can be completed on-line or by down loading a form to fax. Our Youth Volunteer Corps Program Coordinator will follow up with you after your profile has been received. Once you have been accepted as a partner agency, our Program Coordinator will help you design challenging and rewarding volunteer opportunities that cater to youth.

How old do I have to be to volunteer with Child and Youth Friendly Calgary?
Most of our volunteer projects and committees are designed for youth 14-18 years of age. We do however, require young children and parents to participate in our Business Accreditation and Kid's Critic programs.

How can we become an accredited Child and Youth Friendly Calgary business?
To become a business accredited by Child and Youth Friendly Calgary you must be reviewed by a team of volunteer children and parents. Our Business Program Coordinator can provide you with resources in advance to prepare for the accreditation and to offer family friendly solutions.
