Position: Youth Volunteer Corps of Calgary, Team Leader
The YVC Program involves youth in junior and senior high
school in meaningful community service opportunities. Based on a philosophy
of youth involvement and empowerment, we facilitate a year-round program
of supervised, team-based service projects and youth leadership opportunities.
As a part of an international network of YVC sites, the Calgary site is
a strong program with continual growth and successful community partnerships,
housed by Child and Youth Friendly Calgary.
Responsibilities:
- Recruit youth for various one-week
and one-time volunteer projects
- Supervise and work with youth volunteers on service
projects
- Act as a liaison between the Program Coordinator and
the service agency
- Foster teamwork between youth volunteers
- Guide youth through on-going reflective and (non-formal)
educational activities
- Communicate regularly with the Program Coordinator and
discuss discipline problems
- Instil a service ethic in youth volunteers
- Develop community awareness within the team and knowledge
of community for the program
- Distribute and collect youth program evaluations. Complete
Team Leader and volunteer evaluations
- Participate in daily activities, YVC social activities,
recognition events, staff meetings (held at least once a week) and volunteer
orientation and appreciation
- Maintain accurate records of attendance and performance
- Adapt to the changing needs of the program, projects
and volunteers
Minimum Position Requirements:
- At least 18 years of age
- Some educational background in Human Services, Social
Work, Education or related or equivalent in field experience (Note:
as Team Leaders are usually of University age, they may not have necessarily
obtained a degree in the field)
- Demonstrated leadership abilities
- Organizational skills
- Work experience with youth in a non-formal setting,
including motivation and facilitation
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and with
others

Salary: $9.50/hour
Position Dates: September 20, 2004 - June 17, 2005
