CALGARY YOUTHWEEK 2005 http://www.youthweekcalgary.ca Every year during the first week of May, consider our city as one big open house for youth! Check out events like "Youth Media Matters", "Girl Power Pajama Sleep Over" and "So You Want A Job?". The city of Calgary , local businesses and youth serving agencies open their doors and celebrate by offering discounts or free entry to facilities. Don't miss out! Youth week is a celebration of youth activities and community youth programs in Calgary. Throughout a one week period in May, Calgary youth participate in a variety of events across the city and complete the week with a special party at Shaw Millennium Park. Working closely with the Program Coordinator, three committees consisting of youth and adults from the community organize Youth Week each year. During Youth week 2004, 48 events were hosted involving 6,000 youth. Individual cities around the world host their own local Youth Week events. Goals of the Calgary Youth Week initiative are to:
Youthweek 2005 is May 2-8th A report on 2004 In 2004, Calgary Youth Week was held from May 1 – 8. There were 53 events, making Calgary Youth Week one of the largest in Canada! This included a major KickDown Event at Shaw Millennium Park, a fundraising event that collected $2,000 for homeless youth in Calgary and a forum on youth and the media. There was an increase in the number of events from last year, as well as an increase in the number of partnerships established. Events were held in each quadrant of the city, including 15 events in the South West, 16 in the South East, 10 in the North West and 8 in the North East. There were 2 events that took place in every part of the city – The City of Calgary’s The RACE and presentations by Justice 4 Youth. Bragg Creek had a youth social event and they coordinated a bus trip to the Youth Week KickDown. It was wonderful to see Youth Week events occurring all over the city and to see it expand to the surrounding areas! This enabled us to spread the Youth Week message to a greater number of youth.
