Youth Volunteer Corps

Let's face it, volunteer experience is pretty much a necessity for your resume and school applications. So why not get involved in the Youth Volunteer Corps? We offer a variety of challenging volunteer projects that you work on as a team, and you can choose projects based on personal interests and experience you're looking for. Who knew giving back could be so fun!

The Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC) program offers young people of junior and senior high school ages an opportunity to engage in volunteer projects. With over 130 non-profit agencies requesting the support of youth volunteers, the opportunities are endless.

Each team of youth volunteers is led by a trained Team Leader. The project that you volunteer on may be for one day, a week, or two weeks. Training for the team is provided by the agency that asks for volunteers and a paid Team Leader is provided by Child and Youth Friendly Calgary.

Consisting of 15 nominated members from the YVC program and YVC Clubs in Schools program, the steering committee plans initiatives for Global Youth Service Day and the Interschool Challenge. In addition they coordinate the annual Empty Bowls event.

2004 was a record-breaking year for YVC. 275 volunteer projects were completed, totaling 21,000 hours of service to the Calgary community. This was an increase of 7,000 hours from the previous year.
