The Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank

The Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank has always been an integral part of Calgary's community scene from its humble beginnings in 1983 to today. It has upheld a dedicated commitment in its responsibility as a non-profit organization to run an emergency resource in feeding those hungry and those in need of a "hands up" year round. However, the Inter-Faith Food Bank's responsibilities extend much further than the name would seem to imply at first glance.

The Inter-Faith Food Bank's main objective is first and foremost, to provide a positive future for those in unfavorable circumstances. That is, they provide not only hampers but a means to make ends meet as a way to help those get back on their feet and into financial stability. They also help individuals by providing references to various other services in Calgary as well as constantly updating their various programs to suit whatever needs the individual may present.

Yet, all of this could not be possible without the dedication and contribution of the Inter-Faith Food Bank volunteers. Volunteers from the Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC) provide a highly enthusiastic atmosphere from which the many great contributions could come about. It is from caring donators that provides the fuel for the organization to run, but it is the volunteers that drive the food bank towards its goals. The volunteers typically organize the various events that are run by the organization, including food drives as well as packaging the hampers so that they are ready to be shipped out to those in need. It is simply amazing how far a hamper of food packed by a volunteer can go, to helping those in need.
