The Issue:

Home Safety is often the last thing on many people’s minds when moving into a home after living on the street or coming from another country and trying to adjust. Many of these families and individuals do not have the money to ensure their home is safe.

The Project:

  • Youth volunteers will be trained in basic home safety and will then give presentations to participants (only as referred by selected partners/social service agencies)
  • Youth will put together and distribute safety kits to participants (child safety kits will also be supplied to families who have children under the age of four)
    • Possible contents of Home Safety Kits include fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, flashlight, basic first aid kit, basic tool kit, magnet with local emergency numbers, and a home safety guidebook.
